Telecom Department has sought the opinion from industry to block social media and messaging, such as Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram, Telegram, and security in India. The industry has been asked which are the standard which can be blocked by these mobile applications. Telecom Department had sought opinion on blocking these apps from all telecom operators, COAI, ISPAI and others on July 18, 2018.
According to the official source of PTI- DoT had written in the letter that the electronics and IT ministry and the Law Enforcement Agencies had raised the issue of blocking some mobile applications to fulfill the requirements of the IT Section 69A Act.
What does Section 69A IT Act?
Under this Act, information from any computer resource gets the right to block public access. Under this law, the government has the right to block information on the internet (Information related to India’s integrity, Defense of India etc.).
Recently, rumors spread over social media have led to cases of mob mobs in the country. The popular messaging app – Whatsapp has been in great discussion due to misuse. Due to the spread of Fake News through this app, a special team is being set up in India to fight it.
Let’s say that the government is making a local team in conjunction with the company’s India Head to stop fake news on WhatsAppAs. This team will keep an eye on circulation of fake news. Please tell you that the WhatsApp information was sought from those people who circulate this message. But the company has not given any response at this time.
IT Ministry official said that WhatsApp has responded to the notice sent by the government. It says that the company is committed to dealing with fake reports and to eliminate them. The company is also making the team for this. However, WhatsApp has not yet provided any information about how to reach the original person who sent fake reports. According to an official of WhatsApp, “Our first priority to support our users in India and continue our investment is to find a local leader who can create a team for us at ground level.”
